Adrienne & Mark’s Summer Wedding at The Balmoral

Adrienne and Mark’s Balmoral Hotel wedding photos tell the story of a stylish summer celebration in the heart of Edinburgh, from morning preparations and their ceremony in the Sir Walter Scott Suite to rooftop portraits and an evening of speeches, dancing and live music.

Their August wedding had a beautifully elegant black-tie feel. Mark wore a classic all-black tuxedo, while Adrienne completed her bridal look with a sapphire-and-diamond necklace Mark gave her on the morning of the wedding.

We’ve photographed 25 weddings at The Balmoral, and Adrienne and Mark’s day is a great example of how a full wedding can flow through the hotel while still leaving plenty of time for relaxed photographs and genuine moments.

Morning Preparations and The Perfect Gift

Our coverage began with preparations at The Balmoral, where Adrienne and Mark were getting ready separately before the ceremony.

Adrienne spent the morning with her hair and make-up team before getting into her lace wedding dress, while Mark prepared nearby with his best man in a classic all-black tuxedo and bow tie.

One of the loveliest moments of the morning came when Adrienne opened a gift from Mark: a sapphire-and-diamond necklace that became the perfect finishing touch to her bridal look.

A Ceremony in the Sir Walter Scott Suite

Adrienne and Mark were married in the Sir Walter Scott Suite, surrounded by their closest family and friends.

The room was styled simply and elegantly, with tall gypsophila arrangements that complemented the scale of the suite without overpowering it.

Adrienne walked down the aisle with her father before she and Mark exchanged vows and rings in front of the large windows. We photographed the ceremony quietly, focusing on their reactions, expressions, and moments together rather than interrupting the flow of the service.

Once they were pronounced married, the atmosphere immediately shifted into celebration as their guests gathered around to congratulate them.

Rooftop Views and Champagne Celebrations

After the ceremony, Adrienne and Mark spent some time with their guests during the champagne reception while we photographed the congratulations, conversations and relaxed moments as they happened.

We also created a small set of family photographs on the grand staircase, using the stained-glass window and surrounding architecture as a distinctive Balmoral backdrop.

Later, we took Adrienne and Mark up to the rooftop for a short portrait session overlooking Edinburgh.

With the city skyline stretching out around them and the light beginning to soften, the rooftop gave us a completely different look from the interiors downstairs. We kept the session brief so they could enjoy the view, have a few quiet minutes together and then get back to their guests.

An Evening of Joy

The celebrations continued into the evening with dinner, speeches and plenty of laughter from Adrienne and Mark’s family and friends.

After cutting their wedding cake, they took to the dance floor for their first dance while the live band played.

It didn’t take long for the dance floor to fill, and we stayed to photograph the energy of the evening as everyone joined them to celebrate.

About Claire Fowler

Claire Fowler is an experienced Edinburgh wedding photographer and one half of the husband-and-wife team behind Jonathon Fowler Photography. Together with Jonathon, she has photographed more than 700 weddings since 2006, including over 500 weddings in Edinburgh.

Claire's relaxed, unobtrusive approach combines natural documentary photography with beautifully composed portraits.
