← Back to Wedding Advice Hub

Your Edinburgh City Chambers wedding is going to be something truly special! I’m Claire Fowler, and as your experienced Edinburgh City Chambers wedding photographer—having captured many weddings within these historic walls—I would be honoured to tell the story of your day.

Because I have photographed many celebrations here, I don’t just know the building; I know its soul. From the fabulous Alexander Suite to the intimate charm of The Wee Neuk, I know every hidden corner, every light-filled corridor, and every perfect backdrop the Royal Mile offers. In fact, I am proud to be an officially recommended photographer for the City Chambers, ensuring that your day is captured by someone the venue itself trusts.

My style is relaxed, vibrant, and centred on genuine moments—the laughter between you, the happy tears from loved ones, and those quiet glances you’ll treasure forever. You won’t find any stiff posing here; instead, you get a stress-free experience from a specialist who knows exactly how the light hits the European Room at any time of year.

My intimate City Chambers wedding photography prices start at just £299 for weekday weddings, with short-coverage options tailored to your ceremony. View my Edinburgh Wedding Photography Pricing & Packages for all-day coverage.

My editorial and documentary wedding photographer experience means I know:

  • The best ‘secret’ photo spots on the Royal Mile to avoid the crowds.
  • How to get stunning, romantic photos, whatever the Edinburgh weather does.
  • Exactly how to manage the ceremony timing to get all the group and newlywed shots you want without feeling rushed.

There are many fabulous Edinburgh wedding venues, but the Marriage Suite at City Chambers, 253 High Street, EH1 1YJ, does not disappoint—it’s so good that I feature it in my top wedding venues in Edinburgh!

Frequently Asked Questions

I am regularly asked the following questions as the wedding photographer at Edinburgh City Chambers.

How soon Do You Edit Edinburgh City Chambers wedding photos?

Hire me as your Edinburgh City Chambers wedding photographer, and you can usually expect your photos to be ready to view in about 1 week. I might take a little longer during the busier summer months, but I will always keep you posted on progress. If you are happy for me to do so, I will post a few ‘sneak peek’ preview photos within a few days of your big day.

Is there parking for Edinburgh City Chambers Weddings?

There is one parking space within the Quadrangle (one car only) for the duration of the wedding. However, this is subject to change. The team for Edinburgh City Chambers weddings will let you know as soon as possible if parking is suspended. On-street parking is available nearby on Blair Street, Niddry Street, Chambers Street, St Giles’ Street, and Blackfriar’s Street, with longer-term parking available at Q-Park Greenside Place and NCP Castle Terrace.

How do I access the Quadrangle during the Fringe Festival in August?

As there is strictly no parking available in the Quadrangle during August, you must access it on foot. The nearest vehicle access is George IV Bridge.

What time should my guests arrive?

Guests should arrive 10 minutes before your ceremony starts. Or a little earlier if you would like a few photos before the ceremony begins.

Can my guests throw confetti?

Unfortunately, confetti is not allowed within Edinburgh City Chambers or the Quadrangle. However, you can throw biodegradable confetti beyond the Quadrangle boundary on the Royal Mile. See my guide on confetti at weddings.

Do I need to provide witnesses?

You are required by law to have two witnesses present at your ceremony who are 16 years of age or over and can understand the ceremony. The Registration Department is unable to provide you with witnesses. Your witnesses do not need to bring ID documents on the day unless your chosen witnesses look under 16. If you cannot provide witnesses, you have two options. The first option is to ask a couple of strangers on the street if they would like to witness your marriage ceremony. The alternative that works well for my clients is that, when you hire me as your Edinburgh City Chambers wedding photographer and have two of us working with you, we are happy to serve as your witnesses at no extra charge. I can supply an additional witness (contact me to discuss). I recommend scheduling your second witness in advance to avoid stress and inconvenience on your wedding day.

Can we open a bottle of champagne to celebrate?

No food or drink can be consumed in any of the ceremony suites. I have photographed newlyweds popping open a bottle of champagne in the Quadrangle and on the Royal Mile.

How much does it cost for Edinburgh City Chambers Weddings?

Ceremony prices start at just £155 for a small ceremony in the Wee Neuk and rise to £615 for a weekend ceremony in the European Room. Note that these prices are correct as of the date of publication and are subject to change without notice; please confirm costs directly with the Edinburgh City Chambers weddings team.

Who do I contact at the City Chambers to book my ceremony?

If you would like to know how much it costs to get married at the Edinburgh registry office and who to contact to book your ceremony, you can contact the City Chambers wedding team here: Edinburgh City Chambers, 253 High St, Edinburgh EH1 1YJ. Phone: +44 (0)131 529 2600. Email address: marriageandcp@edinburgh.gov.uk

We are absolutely delighted with the photographs.

We had a wonderful ‘just the two of us wedding’ at City Chambers with Jonathon and Claire. They kindly acted as our witnesses as well as producing wonderful photographs of our special day! We were very relaxed in their company and we found we enjoyed our photo shoot around Edinburgh despite being rather photo shy! We are absolutely delighted with the photographs and our friends and family are enjoying being able to share in our wedding day.

We absolutely loved having Jonathon and Claire shoot our wedding

We absolutely loved having Jonathon and Claire shoot our wedding. From the planning to the big day we felt totally totally listened to and supported. Jonathon and Claire were able to make suggestions without being pushy and when it came to capturing the ceremony and reception they were very unobtrusive. Would highly recommend.

5 Reasons You’ll Love Me as Your Edinburgh City Chambers Wedding Photographer

Choosing an Edinburgh City Chambers wedding photographer is about more than viewing a nice portfolio; it’s about finding someone who knows the “rhythm” of the High Street. Here is why over 100 couples have trusted me to tell their story:

  • 1. The “Free Witness” Advantage (Stress-Free Eloping). Eloping just the two of you? Don’t worry about asking strangers on the street. When you book me, I am more than happy to act as your legal witness at no extra charge. I’ve signed the schedule for dozens of couples, ensuring your “I do’s” are official without any last-minute stress.
  • 2. Venue-Recommended Expert (100+ Weddings) I don’t just know the building; I know the team. As a venue-recommended photographer, I have a great relationship with the registrars and know exactly how the Alexander Suite and European Room operate. I know where the best light hits and which “secret” spots on the Royal Mile are quietest for your portraits.
  • 3. The “Micro-Wedding” Specialist. City Chambers rooms are beautiful but intimate. I ditch the bulky gear and “paparazzi” vibe to blend into the background. My style is relaxed and natural—no stiff, awkward posing. I capture the real laughs and quiet glances, making sure you feel like yourselves, not like you’re on a film set.
  • 4. “Insta-Gratification” (48-Hour Delivery) Why wait weeks to share your news? If you are happy for me to do so, within 48 hours, I’ll post a sneak peek of a few photos of your day on my social media, which you can reshare with your family and friends.
  • 5. Weather-Proof & Crowd-Savvy From the August Fringe crowds to the classic Edinburgh horizontal rain, I’ve seen it all. I have the technical gear and local “closes” (hidden alleyways) mapped out to ensure you get stunning, romantic portraits regardless of the Scottish weather or the thousands of tourists on your doorstep.

Your wedding may be small, but it deserves to be captured with a big heart and expert skill. If you want a day that feels relaxed, fun, and distinctly ‘you,’ I’d love to tell your story. Let’s have a chat about your plans.
