Imogen and Stephen’s Edinburgh City Chambers micro wedding was a wonderfully relaxed celebration with a small group of family and friends in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town.

After their civil ceremony at Edinburgh City Chambers, we headed out onto the Royal Mile for relaxed photographs around the Old Town, including Victoria Street and views towards Edinburgh Castle, before finishing the afternoon with a celebratory drink at the George IV Bar.

Imogen & Stephen’s Edinburgh City Chambers Micro Wedding

Imogen and Stephen kept their wedding wonderfully simple: an intimate civil ceremony at Edinburgh City Chambers, followed by relaxed photographs around the Old Town and a celebratory drink with their family and friends.

The smaller guest list meant no need to rush between parts of the day. Once the ceremony finished, we headed out into the city and made the most of wherever the light, weather, and atmosphere took us.

A Relaxed Civil Ceremony at Edinburgh City Chambers

Imogen and Stephen were married at Edinburgh City Chambers in a warm and relaxed civil ceremony surrounded by the people closest to them.

We photographed the ceremony unobtrusively, focusing on the vows, reactions, and little moments around them rather than turning it into a photoshoot.

Once the formalities were finished and everyone had congratulated the newlyweds, we headed out onto the Royal Mile.

Wedding Photos Around Edinburgh’s Old Town

One of the best things about a City Chambers wedding is that some of Edinburgh’s most recognisable streets and architecture are immediately outside the door.

We wandered around the Royal Mile, St Giles’ Cathedral and the surrounding closes, using the historic stonework, narrow streets and quieter corners for a relaxed set of newlywed photographs.

No fixed route or long list of locations to work through. We simply moved through the Old Town, choosing places that worked well with the light and how busy the city was at the time.

Victoria Street & Edinburgh Castle

From the Royal Mile, we continued to colourful Victoria Street before moving to locations with views of Edinburgh Castle.

The contrast between Imogen and Stephen’s wedding outfits and the colourful streets and old stone buildings gave the photographs plenty of variety without needing to travel anywhere by car.

Staying on foot also meant they were never away from their guests for long.

A Celebratory Pint at the George IV Bar

After all the walking, there was only one sensible way to finish the afternoon: with a drink at the George IV Bar.

It quickly became one of the most memorable parts of the day when Imogen stepped behind the bar and poured the pints herself.

Those completely unplanned moments are exactly why we enjoy photographing smaller weddings like this. There was no pressure to move straight onto the next formal part of the day — they could simply enjoy themselves, and we could photograph whatever happened.
