Meet Jonathon & Claire
We’re Jonathon and Claire Fowler, Edinburgh wedding photographers, a husband-and-wife team and the people behind Jonathon Fowler Photography.
We’ve photographed weddings together since 2006, covering more than 700 weddings across Scotland, including more than 500 here in Edinburgh.
For most of a wedding day, we work quietly and naturally, photographing what’s happening without constantly interrupting or directing you. When you do need some help — during your portraits, family photographs or when timings inevitably change — we’ll give you straightforward guidance and keep everything moving without turning the wedding into a photoshoot.
After 20 years of working together, we know each other’s way of working inside out. That matters especially when you book both of us: we can cover different parts of the wedding without duplicating photos or crowding your day.
A Husband-and-Wife Wedding Photography Team
Wedding photography has been our full-time business for most of our married life, but we didn’t begin our careers as photographers.
Claire previously worked in finance, while Jonathon served in the RAF before running a print and graphic design business in Edinburgh. Photography gradually became the thing we wanted to do together, and in 2006 we began photographing weddings professionally.
Since then, we’ve photographed everything from two-person Edinburgh elopements and City Chambers ceremonies to large hotel, castle and country-house weddings across Scotland.
We also work together after the wedding. We both photograph and plan weddings, and we both work on the finished images, with Claire doing most of the editing before each gallery is delivered.
Why We Photograph Weddings the Way We Do
Our own experience with wedding photography helped shape how we work.
When we got married, we didn’t really know what to look for in a photographer. The photographs we received were far more staged than we expected, with very few of the natural moments involving our family and friends.
That experience stayed with us.
It’s one reason we photograph most of a wedding naturally while still making time for family photographs and relaxed portraits of the two of you. We want to capture moments you never saw, as well as photos that include everyone you care about.

Photographing more than 700 weddings teaches you considerably more than how to use a camera.
We’ve dealt with late ceremonies, changing timelines, difficult weather, dark venues, packed Edinburgh streets, missing family members, last-minute location changes and all the other things that can happen during a wedding.
Experience means we can usually solve those problems quietly without making them your problem.
It also means we know when to step in and help and when to leave things alone. You shouldn’t spend your wedding wondering what your photographers need you to do next.

One thing 20 years of weddings has reinforced is how much more important photographs can become with time.
Couples have contacted us years after their weddings to tell us how valuable particular photographs have become, especially photographs of parents, grandparents, relatives and friends who are no longer with them.
That’s why we pay attention not only to the obvious moments but also to the people, reactions and interactions happening around you throughout the day.
The portraits matter. So do the photographs you didn’t even know we had taken.
Where We Photograph Weddings
We’re wedding photographers based in central Edinburgh and photograph most often in Edinburgh and across central Scotland.
We regularly travel throughout Scotland for weddings, including Midlothian, East Lothian, West Lothian, Fife, the Scottish Borders and further afield.
If you’re planning a wedding outside Edinburgh, just tell us where when you enquire. We’re happy to travel and will confirm any additional travel costs before you book.

Who will photograph our wedding?
Depending on the package you choose, Jonathon or Claire will photograph your wedding, or both of us together with our two-photographer Full Day Duo package.
We don’t outsource weddings to associate photographers. When you book Jonathon Fowler Photography, you’re booking us.

What is your wedding photography style?
Our wedding photography combines natural documentary moments with relaxed, beautifully composed portraits.
For most of the day, we photograph what happens naturally without constantly directing you. When it’s time for family photographs or your couple portraits, we’ll give you enough guidance to help you feel comfortable while keeping everything relaxed and efficient.

Do we need to book both of you?
No. We offer both one-photographer and two-photographer wedding coverage.
One photographer works very well for many weddings. Our Full Day Duo package includes both of us and is especially useful when preparations happen in different places, you have a larger wedding, or you simply want more of the day photographed.

How far in advance should we book?
Some popular Saturdays book well in advance, particularly during the busiest parts of the year, but availability varies considerably.
Even if your wedding is only a few months away, it is always worth asking. If your date is free, we’ll be happy to photograph it.
