After the ceremony, we headed through Edinburgh’s Old Town with the newlyweds, photographing them along the way before arriving at Virgin Hotels for drinks, relaxed portraits around the hotel and photographs on the rooftop terrace with Edinburgh Castle in the background.

Their smaller guest list kept everything wonderfully relaxed, with plenty of time to enjoy the hotel before sitting down with their closest family for an intimate reception.

Tanya & Ross’s Winter Wedding at Virgin Hotels Edinburgh

Tanya and Ross began their wedding day with an intimate civil ceremony at Edinburgh City Chambers before walking through the Old Town to continue their celebrations at Virgin Hotels Edinburgh.

That combination worked brilliantly for a small city wedding: the ceremony had the historic character of City Chambers, while Virgin Hotels gave the reception a completely different, more contemporary atmosphere.

An Intimate Ceremony at Edinburgh City Chambers

Tanya and Ross were married at Edinburgh City Chambers surrounded by their closest family and friends.

We photographed the ceremony quietly and unobtrusively, focusing on the vows, reactions, and little moments around them rather than interrupting the flow of the ceremony.

Once the register was signed and everyone had congratulated the newlyweds, we headed outside and began the short walk towards Victoria Street.

Wedding Photos Through Edinburgh’s Old Town

Rather than jumping straight into a taxi, Tanya and Ross walked from City Chambers towards Virgin Hotels Edinburgh.

That gave us a chance to create relaxed newlywed photographs as we moved through the Old Town, using the streets, stone buildings and colourful surroundings along the route.

Because Virgin Hotels is so close to City Chambers, this didn’t need to become a separate hour-long portrait session. The photographs simply became part of the journey between the two venues.

Wedding Photos Inside Virgin Hotels Edinburgh

Once we arrived at Virgin Hotels, the atmosphere changed completely.

The hotel’s contemporary interiors gave us a very different visual backdrop from City Chambers and the Old Town outside, so we spent a short time creating relaxed portraits around some of the hotel’s distinctive spaces.

We kept everything informal, using the architecture, staircase and interiors without turning the reception into a lengthy photoshoot.

Rooftop Terrace Wedding Photos

One of the highlights was taking Tanya and Ross onto the hotel’s rooftop terrace.

The terrace gave us views across the Old Town towards Edinburgh Castle and created one of the strongest contrasts in their gallery: an intimate winter wedding framed against the wider city skyline.

We only needed a short time there before heading back inside to join their guests.

An Intimate Reception at Virgin Hotels Edinburgh

Tanya and Ross finished the day with a small reception surrounded by their closest family.

We photographed the drinks, conversations and relaxed moments as they unfolded rather than organising anything elaborate for the camera.

The smaller celebration suited the day perfectly and gave them plenty of time to enjoy being with the people who mattered most.

Inside the hotel, we like using the staircase, distinctive interiors and quieter corners for relaxed portraits.
The rooftop terrace can also give you fantastic views towards Edinburgh Castle, while Victoria Street and the surrounding Old Town are immediately outside the hotel if you’d like a few photographs outdoors.

What happens if it rains?

Virgin Hotels offers plenty of indoor photo options, so rain doesn’t mean your portraits have to stop.
