Cringletie Wedding Photographer | Venue Guide & Real Wedding

Cringletie is a country house wedding venue near Peebles in the Scottish Borders, set within a 28-acre estate with extensive grounds and its historic walled garden.

As Cringletie wedding photographers, we experienced the venue through Karen and Lee’s intimate elopement, photographing everything from their ceremony inside the house to newlywed portraits around the interiors and gardens.

Karen and Lee chose to marry at Cringletie without a large guest list or a complicated timetable. We spent just a few hours with them, which was enough to photograph the ceremony, relaxed portraits inside while the weather was wet, and then a walk around the grounds once the rain eased.

That experience also showed us one of Cringletie’s strengths from a photography point of view: if the weather changes, there are useful indoor locations as well as extensive grounds outside, so the photography doesn’t depend on having a dry day.

Cringletie as a Wedding Venue Near Peebles

Cringletie is around five minutes from Peebles and is one of the country-house options couples may come across when researching Scottish Borders wedding venues.

The house has a distinctive pink and red sandstone exterior, with woodland, lawns and the historic walled garden providing plenty of variety without needing to leave the estate for photographs.

Karen and Lee’s elopement also showed us how useful the house itself can be. When rain kept us indoors after their ceremony, we photographed them inside before heading outside once the weather improved.

Wedding Preparations at Cringletie

Karen and Lee kept their wedding preparations simple and relaxed, which suited the intimate nature of their elopement.

Before the ceremony, we photographed them around the house, using the large windows and character of the interiors. Karen’s beaded wedding dress worked particularly well in this setting, with the window light picking out the detail without needing to take her outside for photographs.

For a small wedding or elopement, having useful photography locations inside the venue is a real advantage, particularly when the weather is uncertain.

Karen and Lee held their intimate ceremony in the Maguire Lounge, one of Cringletie’s characterful rooms.

With its wood-panelled walls, detailed cornicing and painted ceiling, the room has plenty of interest without needing much additional decoration. Lee waited inside while Karen was piped into the ceremony, which worked particularly well for such a small and personal wedding.

From a photography point of view, the room gave us good opportunities to capture the ceremony naturally while also showing Cringletie’s character.

Wedding Photography at Cringletie When It Rains

It rained immediately after Karen and Lee’s ceremony, so instead of waiting for the weather to improve, we started their newlywed photographs inside Cringletie.

The house gives us several useful options for indoor wedding photography, including the main staircase, fireplaces and large windows. These allowed us to create a varied set of portraits while keeping Karen and Lee warm and dry, rather than forcing photographs outside simply because they were on the original plan.

Once the rain eased, we headed into the grounds and continued their photographs outdoors. That flexibility is one of the things we liked about photographing a wedding at Cringletie: there are worthwhile locations inside and outside, so a change in the Scottish weather doesn’t need to dictate the photography.

Once the rain eased, we headed outside with Karen and Lee for photographs around Cringletie’s grounds and historic walled garden.

The garden gives plenty of variety within a relatively compact area, with established planting, paths, hedges and views back towards the house. For couples who want relaxed outdoor wedding photographs without spending ages away from their guests, that makes it particularly useful.

We kept Karen and Lee moving rather than posing them rigidly, photographing them as they walked, talked and enjoyed a little time together after the ceremony. It suited the relaxed feel of their elopement and gave us natural photographs while still making good use of the setting.

Things to Know Before Booking a Wedding at Cringletie

Cringletie works particularly well if you want a country-house wedding in the Scottish Borders while remaining reasonably close to Edinburgh. The venue is around five minutes from Peebles and approximately 35 minutes from Edinburgh, so it feels rural without being especially remote.

Accommodation at Cringletie

Cringletie has 13 guest rooms and suites in the main house, along with Ardean Cottage in the grounds, which has two bedrooms. On-site accommodation can make things considerably easier if close family or friends are travelling to the Borders for your wedding.

Indoor and Outdoor Wedding Spaces

One of Cringletie’s advantages is the variety available within the estate. In addition to rooms including the Maguire Lounge, Garden Room and Conservatory, there are extensive grounds, woodland and the historic walled garden outside.

From our experience photographing here, that variety is particularly useful when the weather changes. We were able to photograph Karen and Lee indoors while it rained and move outside later without disrupting the flow of their wedding.
