Manari & Andrew’s Summer Wedding at Carlowrie Castle

Manari and Andrew’s summer wedding at Carlowrie Castle was a colourful celebration bringing together Scottish and Japanese traditions, surrounded by family and friends in the castle and grounds.

They were married in the light-filled Orangery, where their humanist ceremony incorporated elements from both cultures before everyone headed outside for confetti, drinks and relaxed photographs around the estate.

Later, they delivered speeches in both English and Japanese before Manari and Andrew took to the dance floor for their first dance and the evening celebrations.

We’ve photographed 25 weddings at Carlowrie Castle, and their day is a great example of how the venue works in summer when the gardens and outdoor spaces can become a big part of the celebration.

Manari & Andrew’s Summer Wedding at Carlowrie Castle

Manari and Andrew celebrated their summer wedding at Carlowrie Castle surrounded by family and friends who had travelled from near and far.

Their day brought together Scottish and Japanese traditions, creating a celebration that felt personal to both of them while making full use of Carlowrie’s castle, Orangery and grounds.

A Humanist Ceremony in the Orangery

Manari walked down the aisle with her dad before joining Andrew for their humanist ceremony in the Orangery, conducted by celebrant Susan Mathieson.

The ceremony incorporated elements from both Scottish and Japanese traditions, reflecting the coming together of their two families and cultures.

With its large windows and natural daylight, the Orangery gave the ceremony a bright, open feel while keeping everyone close together.

Confetti and Drinks in the Grounds

After the ceremony, everyone headed outside for a colourful confetti photograph in front of the castle.

The drinks reception then gave Manari and Andrew time to enjoy congratulations from their guests while we photographed the hugs, conversations and relaxed moments happening around them.

Summer Wedding Photos Around Carlowrie

We took Manari and Andrew away for a short time for newlywed portraits around the gardens and grounds.

Rather than turning this into a long photoshoot, we used a small selection of locations that worked best with the summer light before getting them back to their guests.

The greenery, castle exterior and gardens gave us plenty of variety without needing to leave the estate.

Speeches in English and Japanese

Later, speeches were delivered in both English and Japanese, continuing the blend of cultures that had been such an important part of the ceremony.

There were plenty of emotional moments alongside lots of laughter from their family and friends.

First Dance and Evening Celebrations

Manari and Andrew opened the evening celebrations with their first dance before the dance floor quickly filled around them.

We stayed to photograph the dancing, reactions and interactions as the evening became increasingly relaxed and energetic.

About Jonathon Fowler

Jonathon Fowler is an experienced Edinburgh wedding photographer and co-founder of Jonathon Fowler Photography. Together with his wife Claire, he has photographed more than 700 weddings since 2006, including over 500 weddings in Edinburgh.

Jonathon's approach combines natural documentary photography with relaxed editorial portraits, creating vibrant, authentic images without turning your wedding day into a photoshoot.
