Liberton Kirk Wedding Photographer | Lynn & Alex’s Autumn Wedding

Lynn and Alex’s Liberton Kirk wedding was a wonderfully relaxed autumn celebration. As their Liberton Kirk wedding photographer, we documented their ceremony at this historic Edinburgh church before everyone headed into the city for a reception at InterContinental Edinburgh The George.

The couple first met through their local church, so getting married at Liberton Kirk felt particularly meaningful. Surrounded by family, friends and members of the church community, they celebrated with a warm, personal Christian ceremony before heading into Edinburgh city centre for dinner, speeches and dancing in the King’s Hall at The George.

Lynn had warned us beforehand that they were “not photogenic”, while Alex added that they weren’t particularly “lovey-dovey”. They needn’t have worried. We photographed most of the day naturally, with just enough direction during their portraits to keep everything relaxed.

Wedding Morning Preparations

Lynn’s wedding morning began at her parents’ home, where Claire photographed the bridal preparations with Lynn, her family and five bridesmaids while Jonathon focused on the details — her dress, shoes and flowers.

The atmosphere was relaxed and lively, with everyone enjoying those last few hours before leaving for Liberton Kirk. Lynn wore a True Bride gown with black Jimmy Choo heels, while her bridesmaids’ black dresses and the deep red details in the flowers suited the autumn wedding perfectly.

We then headed across to Alex, who was getting ready with the boys before making our way to Liberton Kirk ahead of the guests.

By the time everyone arrived, Liberton Kirk looked particularly beautiful in its autumn colours, with the ivy around the church turning a rich red.

Lynn arrived with her dad in a black Range Rover while the bridesmaids made their way through the church grounds under umbrellas — very much an Edinburgh autumn wedding!

Their Christian ceremony was warm, personal and full of character. Lynn and Alex were surrounded not only by family and close friends but by members of the church community who had played such an important part in bringing them together.

We photographed the ceremony quietly from around the church, focusing on the vows, reactions from family and friends, and all the small moments between the formal parts of the service.

Wedding Reception at InterContinental Edinburgh The George

After family groups and a few newlywed photographs around Liberton Kirk, everyone travelled into Edinburgh city centre for the reception at InterContinental Edinburgh The George.

Lynn and Alex’s guests gathered for champagne and congratulations in The Library before moving into the King’s Hall for dinner and speeches.

The newlyweds were piped into the room to a huge welcome before Lynn presented the piper with a dram of whisky in the traditional quaich. Speeches followed from Lynn’s dad and members of the wedding party, giving us plenty of brilliant reactions to photograph around the room.

Later, Lynn and Alex cut their wedding cake before taking to the dance floor for their first dance, with Sugar Honey providing the evening entertainment.

It was a great example of how a church ceremony and city-centre hotel reception can work together beautifully within one Edinburgh wedding day.
