Rosebery Steading Wedding Photographer: Gillian & Nick’s Summer Wedding

As Rosebery Steading wedding photographers, we photographed Gillian and Nick’s summer celebration at this restored farm wedding venue near Gorebridge in Midlothian.

Their day took us from preparations at Rosebery Steading and Rosebery House through to their ceremony at Rosebery Chapel, courtyard drinks reception and evening celebrations back at the Steading.

Gillian & Nick’s Rosebery Steading Wedding

Wedding Preparations at Rosebery Steading and Rosebery House

Our coverage of Gillian and Nick’s Rosebery Steading wedding began with the morning preparations in two different parts of the estate.

Gillian got ready with her bridesmaids in the accommodation at Rosebery Steading, while Nick and his groomsmen prepared separately at Rosebery House. Photographing both sides of the morning let us capture the build-up naturally, from quiet moments before the ceremony to conversations and laughter between friends and family.

Nick and his groomsmen wore kilts from McCalls Highland Wear, while Gillian wore a Suzanne Neville wedding dress.

Their Wedding Ceremony at Rosebery Chapel

Gillian and Nick held their wedding ceremony at Rosebery Chapel, with Minister Gilmour Callander leading the service.

Gillian walked down the aisle with her father before she and Nick exchanged their vows in front of their families and friends. The chapel gave the ceremony a very different atmosphere from the barns and courtyard at Rosebery Steading, while still keeping the main parts of the wedding within the Rosebery Estate.

We photographed the ceremony quietly as it unfolded, focusing on Gillian and Nick and the reactions of those around them.

Drinks Reception in the Rosebery Steading Courtyard

After the ceremony, everyone returned to Rosebery Steading for a champagne drinks reception in the courtyard.

The summer weather meant guests could spend much of the reception outside, giving Gillian and Nick plenty of time to relax and catch up with everyone. We photographed this part of the day in our usual documentary style, capturing conversations, reactions, and smaller moments without interrupting the reception.

We also photographed a short selection of family and group photographs before taking Gillian and Nick away for their portraits.

Rosebery Steading Wedding Photography Around the Grounds

For their couple photographs, we used several areas around Rosebery Steading and the surrounding private grounds.

The stone buildings and courtyard gave us a more architectural setting close to the wedding guests, while the gardens, paths and surrounding countryside provided a softer contrast for more relaxed portraits.

We kept this part of the day relatively short. Gillian and Nick could spend a little time together away from the main reception while we gave them enough direction to create natural portraits without turning their wedding into a lengthy photoshoot.

Speeches, Wedding Breakfast and Evening Celebrations

The evening celebrations began with the speeches and wedding breakfast back at Rosebery Steading.

Later, Gillian and Nick cut their wedding cake before taking to the dance floor for their first dance, with their guests gathered around them.

It was a relaxed finish to a summer wedding that made full use of the different parts of the Rosebery Estate, from preparations at the Steading and Rosebery House to the chapel ceremony, courtyard reception and evening celebrations.

Jonathon Fowler is an experienced Edinburgh wedding photographer and co-founder of Jonathon Fowler Photography. Together with his wife Claire, he has photographed more than 700 weddings since 2006, including over 500 weddings in Edinburgh.

Jonathon's approach combines natural documentary photography with relaxed editorial portraits, creating vibrant, authentic images without turning your wedding day into a photoshoot. He's particularly experienced at helping couples who don't feel comfortable in front of the camera, offering just enough direction when it helps while keeping everything relaxed and natural.

After photographing hundreds of weddings, Jonathon brings extensive first-hand experience of wedding venues, changing light, unpredictable weather, busy timelines and the practical realities of photographing weddings across Edinburgh and throughout Scotland. From crowded city-centre streets to country estates, castles and intimate ceremonies, that experience helps couples spend less time worrying about photographs and more time enjoying their wedding.
