The Edinburgh Grand Wedding Photographer: Real Weddings & Photos

We’ve photographed several weddings at The Edinburgh Grand, giving us first-hand experience of this distinctive city-centre venue on St Andrew Square.

Set inside a landmark former banking headquarters, The Edinburgh Grand combines grand historic architecture with contemporary interiors, all within easy walking distance of some of Edinburgh’s best-known streets and landmarks.

The hotel became part of Marriott’s Luxury Collection in 2025, beginning a new chapter for the building while retaining many of the features that make it such an interesting place to photograph. The hotel’s current event spaces include The Register Club and the Games Room. The Penthouse also has a private rooftop terrace with panoramic city views, which we’ve photographed at previous weddings here.

For couples planning a wedding here, the real photographic advantage is the variety: elegant interiors, the sweeping staircase, rooftop views and the surrounding New Town all provide useful options without needing to travel far from the venue.

Why The Edinburgh Grand Works Well for Wedding Photography

The Edinburgh Grand offers a useful mix of indoor and outdoor options without needing to travel far from the venue.

Inside, the staircase, atrium, suites and reception spaces all have a very different feel, so there is plenty of variety for photographs even if the weather is poor. The interiors also work well for quieter portraits when couples want a few minutes away from the busier parts of the day.

The rooftop and terrace areas give a completely different view of Edinburgh, with open skyline photographs that contrast nicely with the building’s more formal interiors.

Its location on St Andrew Square is another advantage. If time and weather allow, couples can step outside for a short walk through the surrounding New Town streets without turning the portrait session into a long trip away from their guests.

For us, that combination of strong interiors, rooftop views and an extremely central location is what makes The Edinburgh Grand especially flexible to photograph.

Wedding Spaces at The Edinburgh Grand

The Games Room

The Games Room is one of The Edinburgh Grand’s main event spaces and can be arranged for wedding ceremonies and private celebrations. Its fireplace, period detailing and more enclosed feel give photographs a very different character from the brighter communal areas elsewhere in the building.

The Register Club

The Register Club works well for drinks and daytime with guests. We’ve photographed wedding guests relaxing here after the ceremony, so it can become part of the day’s story rather than simply a place everyone passes through.

The Penthouse and Rooftop Terrace

The Penthouse is one of the most distinctive parts of The Edinburgh Grand for photography. Claire and Christopher used it for champagne, canapés and speeches, while the terrace gave us panoramic views across Edinburgh for portraits and photographs with their families and wedding party.

Because these spaces and how the hotel uses them can change, couples should confirm their current wedding arrangements directly with The Edinburgh Grand when planning their day.

Wedding Portraits Around The Edinburgh Grand

One of the advantages of The Edinburgh Grand is that you don’t need to travel across Edinburgh to create a varied set of portraits.

St Andrew Square is directly outside, while the surrounding New Town streets offer elegant architecture, quieter doorways, and city-centre backgrounds within a short walk of the hotel. When conditions allow, we can usually create a good range of photographs without taking couples away from their guests for long.

The rooftop and terrace then provide a completely different perspective, with open views across Edinburgh that contrast with the streets and interiors below.

A Real Wedding at The Edinburgh Grand: Claire & Christopher

The photographs on this page feature Claire and Christopher’s wedding and show how several of The Edinburgh Grand’s spaces can work together across a full wedding day.

Our photography coverage began later, during the bridal preparations.

Claire got ready with Rosie Fraser from That Rosie Glow and Emma Combe Bridal Hair, wearing an Eva Lendel wedding dress from Pretty Woman Edinburgh. Christopher wore a suit from The Kooples with a Saint Laurent shirt and Gucci shoes.

Their close family and friends gathered at The Edinburgh Grand before Edinburgh Registrar Jacquie Balfour conducted their civil marriage ceremony.

After the ceremony, everyone relaxed with cocktails in The Register Club while we photographed Claire and Christopher. The hotel offered plenty of variety without needing to travel far, including its interiors, staircase, and rooftop views across Edinburgh.

Later, guests gathered in the Penthouse Suite for champagne and canapés with panoramic views across the city.

Claire and Christopher were welcomed into the Penthouse with a shower of confetti before everyone settled in for the speeches.

Claire’s dad, Christopher and his best men spoke, giving us plenty of the laughter, reactions and quieter moments we enjoy photographing naturally.

The speeches brought our coverage of their wedding to a close and rounded off a day that made particularly good use of The Edinburgh Grand’s different spaces — from preparations and the ceremony indoors to drinks in The Register Club and portraits on the rooftop.
