The Rowantree wedding photographer you choose needs to be comfortable working in a very different environment from a conventional hotel, and Donna and Leanne’s day showed exactly why.

Hidden beneath Edinburgh’s Old Town, The Rowantree’s stone vaults created an atmospheric setting for their ceremony and celebrations, with candlelight, historic stonework and all of their closest family and friends gathered together in one intimate space.

One of our favourite moments was Leanne walking down the aisle with her dad, with the excitement written all over both of their faces. Their ceremony had the perfect mixture of laughter, emotion and genuinely lovely reactions from the people around them.

Later, we left the city centre briefly for photographs at Dunsapie Loch, creating a completely different backdrop before returning to The Rowantree for speeches, dancing and the evening celebrations.

The Rowantree Wedding Photographer: Donna & Leanne’s Ceremony

Donna and Leanne’s ceremony had a brilliant atmosphere from the moment everyone arrived. Friends and family chatted, laughed, and got emotional before the ceremony even began.

Their celebrant struck a lovely balance between humour and warmth, telling their story in a way that felt personal and relaxed.

One of our favourite moments was Leanne walking down the aisle with her dad. The excitement on both of their faces was unmistakable, and the reactions from the people around them made it even more special.

As the vows and rings were exchanged, the room became much quieter and more intimate. The softly lit stone vaults suited the ceremony perfectly, creating a warm backdrop for all the laughter, tears and little reactions happening around them.

From a photography point of view, we worked as unobtrusively as possible, concentrating on the expressions and interactions rather than interrupting the flow of the ceremony.

Breathtaking Scenery at Dunsapie Loch

After the ceremony and congratulations, Donna and Leanne headed out with their guests on a vintage red bus for a short trip to Dunsapie Loch.

The change of scenery worked brilliantly. After the dark, atmospheric stone vaults of The Rowantree, the open landscape around Dunsapie Loch gave their photographs a completely different feel.

We used the loch and surrounding hills for a relaxed mix of group photographs and newlywed portraits, keeping everything informal so the stop felt like part of the celebration rather than a separate photoshoot.

It was a great example of how a city-centre wedding can still include a little of Edinburgh’s wilder landscape without travelling far.

Unforgettable Speeches And A Packed Dance Floor

Back at The Rowantree, the celebrations continued with speeches, plenty of laughter and a packed dance floor.

The speeches had the same relaxed, emotional feel as the ceremony, with lots of brilliant reactions from Donna and Leanne’s family and friends.

Later, the vaults completely changed character as the evening party got going. We loved photographing Donna and Leanne on the dance floor, surrounded by their favourite people and clearly having the time of their lives.

The dark stone, warm lighting and energy of the room gave the evening photographs a very different feel from the outdoor portraits at Dunsapie Loch earlier in the day.

That contrast is one of the things we particularly like about this wedding: from an intimate candlelit ceremony to open Edinburgh scenery and then a lively underground party, the photographs naturally changed as the day progressed.
