Megan and Tyler’s summer wedding at Prestonfield House was a wonderfully colourful and relaxed celebration, with an outdoor ceremony on the lawn surrounded by family and friends.

The sunshine meant they could make the most of Prestonfield’s gardens throughout the day, from their ceremony beneath the trees to relaxed newlywed photographs around the grounds. Megan’s flower crown and beautiful butterfly-detailed dress suited the setting perfectly, while Tyler wore a kilt for their warm and very personal Humanist ceremony.

After the ceremony, we spent a short time exploring the gardens with the newlyweds before everyone continued the celebrations inside Prestonfield.

A Summer Wedding at Prestonfield House

Megan and Tyler’s wedding made the most of everything Prestonfield offers in summer — colourful gardens, mature trees, open lawns and plenty of space for guests to relax between different parts of the day.

Although Prestonfield is only a short distance from central Edinburgh, the grounds feel wonderfully private once you’re inside the estate. That gave the whole day a relaxed, almost country-house atmosphere without the couple needing to travel outside the city.

We spent most of the day moving naturally between the house, gardens and ceremony area, keeping the photography varied without taking Megan and Tyler away from their guests for long.

An Outdoor Ceremony in Prestonfield’s Gardens

Megan and Tyler exchanged vows outdoors in the gardens, surrounded by family and friends beneath the trees.

The warm summer weather meant the ceremony could take place entirely outside, with the greenery and garden setting giving the photographs a completely different feel from Prestonfield’s darker interiors.

We photographed the ceremony quietly from different positions around the garden, focusing not only on Megan and Tyler but on the reactions of the people around them — laughter, tears and all the little moments happening between the formal parts of the service.

Megan’s Bridal Style & Wedding Details

Megan wore a beautifully detailed wedding dress with delicate butterfly embellishments, paired with a colourful flower crown that suited the relaxed garden setting perfectly.

The floral details and soft summer styling worked beautifully against Prestonfield’s greenery, while Tyler’s kilt added a strong Scottish element to the day.

Rather than photographing every detail in isolation, we focused on how everything fit into the wedding as a whole — from the dress and flowers to the garden ceremony and the way the couple moved through the day.

A Relaxed Humanist Ceremony

Their Humanist ceremony was warm, personal and full of humour, with plenty of moments that had guests laughing one minute and wiping away tears the next.

Those kinds of ceremonies are brilliant to photograph because the story is happening everywhere — not only with the couple, but in the faces of family and friends watching them.

We kept our approach unobtrusive, letting the ceremony unfold naturally while making sure we captured the reactions, gestures, and little interactions that made it feel completely personal to Megan and Tyler.

Relaxed Wedding Photos Around Prestonfield’s Gardens

After the ceremony, we spent a short time exploring the gardens with Megan and Tyler for their newlywed photographs.

Prestonfield gives us plenty of variety within a relatively small area, so there was no need to disappear for an hour or turn the afternoon into a long photoshoot. We used the lawns, trees, paths and quieter corners around the house, choosing locations based on the light and what felt right on the day.

The aim was simple: give them a varied set of photographs, keep everything relaxed, and get them back to their guests quickly.

Celebrating Inside Prestonfield House

Later in the day, the celebration moved inside Prestonfield, where the richly decorated rooms gave the photographs a very different atmosphere from the bright summer gardens.

The contrast between the outdoor ceremony and the darker historic interiors is one of the things that makes a Prestonfield wedding gallery so varied.

We photographed the celebrations as they unfolded — conversations, speeches, laughter and the quieter moments in between — rather than trying to turn the reception into another formal portrait session.
